Leyte Landslide: Yet Another Tragedy Struck Again
With
the Philippines not yet fully recovered from the effects of the
February 4th Wowowee disaster, as well as the continued political
circus in which its end won't be seen in the forseeable future and the
Shabu Republic bust last week in Pasig (coincidentally the same city
where the stampede took place), the nation is again in the limelight --
this time due to a landslide brought by heavy rains in the town of St.
Bernard, Southern Leyte. That landslide buried three barangays
and has deemed these as being "wiped off the map", according to a
congressman.
However, what's worse is that
not most people know about it, given that it has happened in what is
considered as one of the poorest provinces in the Philippines.
And these occassions must have called for us to unite and help our
brothers and sisters in need, instead of just focusing in too much
politicking and the different circuses out there. Or maybe we
Filipinos have become too callous these days that each one of us must
be struck with something so we could just unite and help each other for
the sake of our country?
Like anything else, when will
we all learn as a nation -- and as a people? Hoping that these
events serve indeed as an eye-opener for us...
